This video clip is a timelapse from a Commercial Still Photography shoot. It's presented here from a behind-the-scenes perspective as an opportunity for you to observe some things about Shaun's shooting style that applies to both his cinematography and still photography.

1. He loves the details.
Choosing the location (in this case a tobacco field)... noticing details in the wardrobe... directing the interaction between the talent... these are the things that Shaun is focused on during every shoot. If you follow this footage closely enough, you'll see his knack for details in action.

2. He loves to light.
This exact time of day was perfect for what Shaun wanted to accomplish here. He manipulated the existing sunlight at that particular moment in order to create the look that he wanted to achieve. Then he supplemented it with his own lighting to further the effect. Shaun believes that good lighting is just as much of a technical process as it is creative.

3. He loves to deliver options.
In this particular case, he really knew the exact shot that he wanted in terms of staging and composition. Then it was up to Shaun and the models to come together as a creative team to develop some options by experimenting with various interactions between the two of them. You'll also notice that at one point Shaun began shooting from the step ladder. This was because the client was unsure whether or not they wanted a horizon... so he gave them shots both with and without. Once he knew he had his shot, he decided to move the models to the ground as another option to see how this would impact the interaction between them.

These three points are fundamental to Shaun's thinking when he shoots, be it motion picture or stills. Shaun is truly a student of the craft and enjoys every moment he gets to absorb himself in it.
